Iconic Elda chair by Joe Colombo for Comfort, Italy – circa 1960.
The leather has tears and wear. The fiberglass is in very good condition.
The ‘Elda’ chair is one of the most well-known designs of Italian designer Joe Colombo. This lounge chair is one of the first designs using new material fiberglass in a great amount. Joe Colombo named this design ‘Elda’ in honor of his wife. The white fiberglass shell is fitted with black leather cushions that support the sitter from all sides. The way the leather is tufted in thick tubes characterizes the ‘Elda’ lounge chair in an unparalleled manner. The ‘Elda’ chair is also represented in the collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Louvre in Paris.
